Winning is difficult in the SEC, especially on the road. Thankfully the Longhorns defense travels as No. 3 Texas continues to do just that after it’s 20-10 win over Arkansas from Donald W. Reynolds Razorback Stadium on Saturday.

Texas has now won 10 consecutive roads games, a streak that began last season. Thanks to a stifling defense that only allowed 74 yards in the first half, and 231 total, and ginormous efforts from Alfred Collins and Jahdae Barron, the Horns avenged a loss to Arkansas from 2021 in Steve Sarkisian’s first season.

Texas opened the scoring after Barron’s interception of Taylen Green in the opening quarter. Barron notched one tackle for loss, one sack, and one interception in the first half in front of representatives of the Jim Thorpe Award on Saturday. When Quinn Ewers hit Matthew Golden for a 20-yard scoring strike early, it gave the Horns a 7-0 lead with 7:23 left in the opening stanza. They never looked back.

Alfred Collins and Colin Simmons both collected the sacks, helping the Longhorns shutout the Razorbacks in the first half.

Texas added more points via Bert Auburn. When a pair of drives stumbled, Auburn drilled 33-yard and 39-yard field goals and extended the Longhorns lead, 13-0, midway through the third quarter.

Then Arkansas woke up in the third. The Hogs finally answered after former Longhorn Ja’Quinden Jackson punched it in for 1-yard touchdown and got the Hogs within one score, 13-7, at the 3:39 mark. Then they got the ball back and drove another 57 yards, with Matthew Shipley draining a 44-yard field goal, bring the Hogs within three, 13-10, at the end of the third.

That’s when Texas responded. Ewers connected with Isaiah Bond on a big play, Jaydon Blue produced a handful of chain-moving runs, and then Ewers hit Golden on a one-yard scoring catch, after an 8-play, 75-yard drive to begin the final quarter. The Horns went up, 20-10, with 11:25 remaining and that was all she wrote.

Ewers finished a modest 20-of-32 passing, 176 yards, and two touchdowns. Blue added 83 yards on 14 carries, while Golden had two catches for 22 yards, and two scores. Eight different Horns caught passes, with Bond leading the way with 48 yards on four grabs.

But it was the Horns defense that shined on Saturday. Texas won the turnover battle, 2-0, which was huge, Sarkisian noted. They held Arkansas to 5-of-14 on third down conversions, tallied six sacks, and nine tackles for loss on the day.
