Report: Sean Miller completes his staff with latest assistant hire

Sean Miller’s first staff at Texas is complete. Miller is hiring Kenya Hunter as an assistant, per Jeff Goodman of the Field of 68.

Though the Hoosiers had a down year in 2024-25, they brought in one of the top classes of in the transfer portal. Checking in at No. 4 behind Louisville, Kansas, and West Virginia, IU added top transfers Langdon Hatton, Luke Goode, Kanaan Carlyle, Oumar Ballo, Dallas James, and Myles Rice.

Hunter played at Duquesne, averaging 11.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 2.2 steals in 27 starts.

He has a bachelors from Duquesne and a Masters from NC State. Other stops in his career include Georgetown, Xavier with Miller during his first stint in Cincinnati, Nebraska, and UConn.

He joins a staff with Ulric Maligi, Adam Cohen, David Miller, and Ryan Anderson. Texas also retained Chris Ogden as General Manager and added Ryan Reynolds as director of basketball operations.

Maligi first came to Texas from Texas Tech when Chris Beard was hired in 2021. Along with his on-court contributions, Maligi may be best known for when he parachuted out of a plane in celebration of earning a commitment from Dillon Mitchell. Maligi, who was most recently associate head coach in Manhattan for Jermoe Tang, has previous stops at Texas, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, SMU, Houston, Stephen F. Austin, and UT-Arlington.

Ogden, a former Longhorn forward for Rick Barnes, has been in the Texas program in some form for almost two decades. He was a key part of crafting a home court advantage at the Moody Center and is now working for his fourth Texas head coach.

Cohen, who was the associate head coach at Xavier under Miller, is an Arizona graduate who has also coached at Stanford, Vanderbilt, Harvard, and Rice. He was the recruiting coordinator at XU in addition to associate head coach. According to his Xavier bio, “Cohen was named one of the 50 Most Impactful High Major Assistants for 2022-23 (survey of industry professionals by Silver Waves Media). The NABC named Cohen to its prestigious 30-under-30 Team, recognizing the nation’s top assistant coaches, at the 2016 Final Four in Houston.”

David Miller, no relation to Sean, was an assistant coach for Xavier. According to his bio, he was “named one of the 50 Most Impactful High Major Assistants for 2022-23 (survey of industry professionals by Silver Waves Media).” Miller has previous stops at San Jose State and worked for Sean Miller at Arizona as director of on-campus recruiting and basketball analytics. David’s father, Dave, coached at Texas.

Anderson, who was an assistant coach and director of player development at XU, is another former Wildcat on Miller’s staff. Anderson began his career at Boston College before transferring to Arizona for his final two years. After a brief international career, he began coaching at Arizona in 2021-22.

Reynolds most recently served as special assistant to the head coach at Xavier and has been with Miller for all but one of his years as a head coach.
