Choice was due a new contract as his previous deal, which was approved by the UT Board of Regents in February 2023, lasted through the 2024 season. Choice’s salary was $700,000, already one of the highest among running back coaches in college football. The reported jump to $800,000 would place him within the top ten highest-paid running back coaches in FBS, according to data from Football Scoop.
The Cowboys also pursued Oregon running backs coach Ra’Shaad Samples, but ultimately landed on Derrick Foster per a report from Nick Harris of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Choice made the following post on X on Sunday night, seemingly confirming his plans were to remain in Austin with the Longhorns.
Choice is one of several Texas assistant coaches who are likely to see approval for contract extensions on the agenda for the February 19-20 meeting of the UT System Board of Regents in Austin, as that has been the meeting in the two previous years where approval of coaching contracts were added to the agenda. No Longhorn coaches took different jobs or were let go following the 2024 season.
Choice, safeties coach Blake Gideon, secondary coach Terry Joseph, and quarterbacks coach AJ Milwee had their contracts that lasted through the 2024 season approved in February of 2023. Similar applies for strength and conditioning coach Torre Becton.

Wide receivers coach Chris Jackson was on a two-year deal as well, according to USA Today data.
Linebackers coach Johnny Nansen and defensive line coach Kenny Baker had two-year deals approved prior to the 2024 season.
Tight ends coach and special team coordinator Jeff Banks, offensive coordinator Kyle Flood, and defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski all had their contracts extended through the 2026 season one year ago.
Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian should also see his one-year extension that runs his contract through the 2031 on the upcoming agenda. Sarkisian and Texas agreed to an extension through 2030 after the 2023 season in the wake of the Longhorns’ first Big 12 Championship since 2009 and the sudden opening of the Alabama head coaching job in the wake of Nick Saban‘s retirement. Following some reported NFL interest in Sarkisian, Texas elected to add one more year to his deal.
