Gideon fills a vacancy created by the departure of Tyler Santucci, who left Atlanta to be the linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens.
Gideon, who played at Texas from 2008 to 2011, had previous stops at Ole Miss and Houston. He was a key part in helping the Longhorn secondary to a fantastic 2024 season. With safeties like Andrew Mukuba, Michael Taaffe, Derek Williams, and Jelani McDonald, the Longhorns were No. 7 in passing defense, allowing only 173.8 yards through the air per game. Texas was also No. 3 in total defense.
Taaffe earned second-team All-America honors from the Associated Press. Mukuba saw his name shoot up draft boards thanks to his phenomenal end of season stretch.

Gideon also played a key role in signing one of the top defensive back classes in the 2025 cycle, headlined by five-star Galveston (Texas) Ball product Jonah Williams.
The vacancy is the first of the offseason for the Longhorns on the assistant coaching staff.
