Robinson, Sanders, Ford, Overshown receive AP All-Big 12 first-team honors

Bijan Robinson, Ja’Tavion Sanders, Jaylan Ford, and DeMarvion Overshown were named to the Associated Press’ All-Big 12 first team on Friday. The all-conference team was selected by 18 sports writers and sportscasters who regularly cover the conference.

Robinson was a unanimous selection to the first team. A third-year running back from Tucson (Ariz.) Salpointe Catholic, Robinson won the 2022 Doak Walker Award on Thursday. He also received All-America honors from the Football Writers Association of America and the Walter Camp Football Foundation.

Robinson rushed for 1580 yards and scored 18 touchdowns on the ground, averaging 6.1 yards per carry. He also added 314 yards and two touchdowns on 19 catches.

Sanders, a second-year tight end from Denton (Texas) Ryan, burst onto the scene this year after contributing mostly on special teams in 2021. He caught 49 passes for 577 yards and eight touchdowns and had a catch in every game.

Ford, a third-year linebacker from Frisco (Texas) Lone Star, was second in the conference in tackles. He had 109 on the year including 10.0 for loss and 2.0 sacks. He also had four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.

Overshown, a fifth-year linebacker from Arp (Texas), finished second on the Longhorns in tackles behind Ford with 96. He had 10.0 tackles for loss and four sacks.

Several Longhorns were also named to the All-Big 12 second team. Xavier Worthy was added as a wide receiver, while Kelvin Banks was honored for his work at tackle. On defense, Moro Ojomo and Keondre Coburn took both defensive tackle spots.

TCU quarterback Max Duggan was the unanimous selection for offensive player of the year. Kansas State defensive end Felix Anudike-Uzomah was named the defensive player of the year. Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel was named the newcomer of the year. TCU head coach Sonny Dykes was the unanimous selection for coach of the year.
