Ehlinger has appeared in eight career games in three seasons. In 2022, he started three games for Indianapolis, losing all three. In his NFL career, Ehlinger is 64-for-101 for 573 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions. He also has six career rushing touchdowns. He did not appear in 2024.

Ehlinger had been a backup for most of his career, whether behind Anthony Richardson, Gardner Minshew, Carson Wentz, or Matt Ryan. He heads to Denver to be part of Sean Payton‘s offense and join a QB room that includes Bo Nix and Jarrett Stidham.

Ehlinger was picked in the sixth round of the 2021 draft by the Colts. He left the 40 Acres second in school history in passing yards (11,436), completions (923), and touchdown passes (94). He also rushed for 33 touchdowns and 1907 yards on the ground. His most prolific season was 2019, when he was 296-for-454 for 3663 yards, 32 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. He also rushed for 663 yards and seven touchdowns.

Ehlinger finished with 27 career wins, fourth most in school history, and was a two-time team captain. He won the 2020 Jason Witten Collegiate Man of the Year award. He earned All-Big 12 second-team honors in 2020 after he was an honorable mention in 2018.

Ehlinger joins former Longhorn teammates Brandon Jones, PJ Locke, and Malcolm Roach on the Broncos.

Ehlinger was the most recent quarterback to be taken in the NFL Draft out of Texas. That stretch should end in the upcoming draft, where Quinn Ewers is a certainty to be selected in the seven round event. Ewers is just behind Ehlinger in a number of Texas school records including yards, completions, and touchdowns.
