Scottie Scheffler at The Masters

Former Texas Longhorn Scottie Scheffler enters today’s play with a record lead at The Masters in Augusta, Georgia.
Scheffler hit two bogeys in his first three holes but quickly gained footing in his final 12 holes at six under. He’s notched an eight under for the week and holding a five-shot lead. For all your Masters coverage, follow here at InsideTexas.
It’s been a breakout season for Scheffler already, recently climbing to the No. 1 ranking in the world after a win at the WGC-Dell Technology Match Play in Austin, TX. Also having won at WM Phoenix Open and Arnold Palmer Invitational, all three of Scheffler’s professional wins have come in 2022.

Scheffler shot 67 to forge a record-tying, five-stroke lead through 36 holes, well positioned for a major title in his third Masters appearance. He matched a midway Masters margin held by Harry Cooper (1936), Herman Keiser (1946), Jack Nicklaus (1975), Raymond Floyd (1976) and Jordan Spieth (2015). All except Cooper went on to win.

Texas-Ex Jordan Spieth didn’t make the cut on Friday, missing for the first time at The Masters.
Scheffler had his best career finished in Augusta last year, finishing tied for 18th. He has been able to place inside of the top 10 in every other major, with The Masters alluding him. Now, Scheffler will be going for the green jacket, let alone a top 10 finish.
Heading into Saturday, Scheffler will tee off with the final group of the day. He will be hoping to keep his distant lead before heading into the final round on Sunday. Scheffler will be paired with Charles Schwartzel, with the two scheduled at the first tee at 2:50 ET.
