This is the fourth consecutive year that we have seen Texas look to the portal for a potential impact wide receiver. Emmett Mosely V is the latest to join this crew, but unlike the others he will likely see at least two years in a Texas jersey. That would align perfectly with the most likely Arch Manning draft timeline.

With the new addition of Mosely V, Texas has a deep and dangerous WR corps heading into the 2025 season. Check out every play from his 2024 season below.

Anyway, let’s look to the past as it pertain to Texas. In 2022 we saw the team add the freakishly athletic Isaiah Neyor, but unfortunately he wasn’t able to play that season after suffering an injury during a tremendous fall camp. Coming to Texas from Wyoming, he not only had 95th percentile measurements across the board among NFL WRs, but he had freaky levels of production as a freshman and sophomore for the Cowboys. What could have been.

Sarkisian and company added Georgia transfer Adonai Mitchell in 2023. He came up clutch time and time again, and you could argue that he was even somewhat underutilized based off how many games he had with four or fewer targets. Mitchell accumulated 845 yards and 11 touchdowns on 55 receptions, leading to him being drafted with the 52nd pick.

In 2024, Texas saw multiple transfers join with a potential to make an impact. Isaiah Bond and Matthew Golden were both brought in to bolster the WR room. Bond started off the season as the new WR1, tallying nearly 70% of his 540 total yards in the five games leading up to his unfortunate ankle injury versus Oklahoma.

Until Bond went down versus Oklahoma, Golden was a prime candidate for returning to Texas as WR1 in 2025. We found out that Golden was a diamond waiting to be revealed with nearly 60% of his 987 receiving yards coming in the final six games. Texas will need to add valuable talent and experience to fill that void.

Enter Mosely.

The transfer out of Stanford leaves the cardinal colored school as the true freshman school record holder for both (48) receptions and (6) touchdowns. Immediately what stands out is how smooth and just naturally athletic this dude is. He bounces off of tackles, weaves effortlessly, catches the ball with strong hands and has excellent body control and tracking ability.

It’s incredibly easy to see why Sarkisian wanted to add him to the talented WR roster. He was used in a variety of motions early on which shows a likely ability to pick up the Texas playbook quickly. He was trusted with the ball in his hands in a variety of ways. He dropped back to pass a time or two, ran the ball out of the tailback slot, and was deployed as a rusher out of the previously mentioned motion often.

This sounds like a dream addition for Sarkisian. Truthfully, it is hard to nitpick even if you watch his film through a negative lens. Even when you watch how he plays with the ball out of his hands, the effort from this guy is at an all-time high every play. He reminds me of a mixed combination of Jordan Whittington in that way
