On Tuesday night, Andre Duplantier II was called on in relief with hopes of steadying a shaky Longhorn pitching performance against the UTSA Roadrunners. Instead, Duplantier took the mound without ever throwing an official pitch, hooked from the game after a handful of warmup pitches before he could face a batter.

At the time, head coach Jim Schlossnagle said this about the decision to take Duplantier out of the game.

“He’s fine. I think he didn’t have a lot of time to get ready. He said he was ready. It looked like he was kind of slinging it a little bit,” Schlossnagle said. “When I went out and asked him ‘How are you feeling,’ he said, ‘I’m okay.’ We’re not going to pitch on a Tuesday night if we’re just feeling okay.”

The injury didn’t sound severe, but the optics of the situation did seem concerning. Duplantier, who entered the game having given up just two runs in his seven innings of relief, looked uncomfortable throwing his warmup pitches, and the trainer who quickly made their way to the mound was focused on his throwing arm.

But Texas fans shouldn’t be too worried about the health of the veteran reliever.

On his weekly appearance on AM 1300 The Zone in Austin, Schlossnagle said he expects Duplantier to be fine for the weekend. Doubling down on that idea, the most recent SEC Student-Athlete Availability Report, more popularly known as an injury report, shows no sign of Duplantier, only that OF Easton Winfield is questionable to play against LSU.

Duplantier’s health will be a key factor to Texas’ success this weekend, especially against a high-powered LSU offense. Duplantier is one of the few pitchers on the staff with experience against the Tigers, having thrown a combined 2.1 innings of one-run baseball between three appearances from 2022-24.

Texas’ rotation should be fully ready to go come tonight’s matchup against the Tigers at 7 p.m., as LHP Jared Spencer takes the mound for his second SEC start. SEC Network will air the contest.
