Who would have thought two of the top teams in the Southeastern Conference would be from the Lone Star State?

1. Georgia

Though the Bulldogs may be second in the standings, they possess one of the top wins in college football this year and look the part of a Southeastern Conference champion at this juncture. That’s not to say they’re the only team like that, nor are they a perfect team, but the standard of the sport still calls its home Athens, Ga.

T-2 Texas
T-2 Texas A&M

Texas A&M is first in the SEC standings and notched a big win over LSU this weekend, but both teams sit at 7-1 and are on pace to make November 30 one of the biggest days in football history in Texas. Both teams have starting quarterbacks that have been up and down plus backups with promising futures. Both teams have stellar defenses that make life hard for opponents. Both teams have losses to top-10 teams at home. Both teams need to make it to Thanksgiving weekend to give the fans the game the return of this rivalry deserves.

4. Tennessee

The Vols were off this past week and dropped a spot as a result of A&M swapping places. Back-to-back games at home against Kentucky and Mississippi State should give Tennessee the needed runway to make it to Georgia on November 16 with only the one loss.

5. Alabama

Took care of business against a Missouri team that’s struggling to stay in the top 10 of these rankings and no longer deserves to be anywhere close to the top 10 of the major polls. It’s not a perfect process for Alabama but 34-0 over Mizzou looks like the Alabama we’re familiar with.

6. LSU

Garrett Nussmeier made his own life difficult in College Station and there wasn’t much help from any of his teammates in the 38-23 loss to the Aggies. A bye week approaches for the Tigers, who finish with Alabama, at Florida, Vanderbilt, and Oklahoma.

7. Ole Miss

The Rebels had to win this game to get back to .500 in SEC play and improve to 6-2. A 300-yard game from Jaxson Dart was more than enough for Ole Miss to score 26 points with this Oklahoma team struggling to make it to double digits every week.

8. Arkansas

Fifty-eight points on the road with six total touchdowns from Taylen Green is quite a day, even if it is against a Mississippi State team that has yet to win an SEC game. The Razorbacks might be the best team in the large middle of the SEC and can punch up against Ole Miss this upcoming weekend.

9. South Carolina

The Gamecocks enjoyed the week off after beating Oklahoma, and will now welcome Texas A&M for a “rivalry” game at Williams-Brice Stadium. Columbia is no easy place to play at night, and the Gamecock pass-rush is quality. Can they get enough points?

10. Missouri

Injuries happen and far too many took place for Missouri to have any chance of scoring against Alabama. While the 6-2 record is a good one, the Tigers have lost to the best teams on their schedule and probably do not have a path to making the 12-team playoff anymore.
