Some final Pro Football Focus numbers on the Texas Longhorns

With just one game remaining in the 2024 season, most of the data compiled by Pro Football Focus is written in ink and can be etched into stone late Monday night when the battle between Ohio State and Notre Dame is complete.

That provides an opportunity to see how Texas ranks in a number of different PFF team rankings compared to some of the other College Football Playoff contenders (and a few other surprising teams).

Here’s PFF’s grading system explained, but keep this critical paragraph in mind…

Season-level grades aren’t simply an average of every game-grade a player compiles over a season, as the season grade credits the entire body of work. An 80.0 game grade is not close to one of the best games of all-time, but 16 games of 80.0 grades will equal an outstanding season of consistency and likely one of the better seasons in a given year.

Sometimes PFF can be misleading as the system fully admits it does not know individual player assignments. However, much of the numbers ascribed to the Texas Longhorns by the grading entity do indicate the areas where Steve Sarkisian‘s team was strong and where it needs to improve ahead of 2025.
