Texas A&M had one of the best head coaches in college baseball. Had.

Inside Texas has pointed to this being the inevitable move for the Longhorns.

Schlossnagle rejuvenated an A&M baseball program that had become stagnant under Rob Childress. During his first three seasons as head coach, Schlossnagle reached the College World Series twice including during his first season in 2022. The Aggies defeated the Longhorns under Pierce in Omaha but eventually fell to national runner-up Oklahoma.

Following elimination in the Stanford regional in 2023, Schlossnagle led the Aggies to heights they had never before reached in 2024. Thanks to premier portal additions and development of homegrown talent, A&M went 19-11 in Southeastern Conference play and won every game it played against non-SEC competition. The Aggies were the runner up in the 2024 Men’s College World Series, falling to No. 1 seed Tennessee in the national championship.

Prior to moving to College Station, Schlossnagle was head coach of TCU from 2004 to 2021. His time in Fort Worth overlapped with Texas athletic director Chris Del Conte‘s tenure leading the Horned Frogs athletic department from 2009 to 2017. Their close friendship is a primary reason behind Schlossnagle moving to Texas, IT was told.

During his time in Fort Worth, Schlossnagle turned what was a moribund program with two total NCAA Tournament appearances into one of the top programs in the nation. He immediately turned TCU into a postseason regular and made 16 NCAA Tournament appearances as head coach of the Horned Frogs. Texas fans will recall when Schlossnagle led TCU to a breakthrough season and to the program’s first appearance in the College World Series in 2010. TCU defeated Texas in the Austin Super Regional, and celebrated on top of the Longhorn in the outfield of UFCU Disch-Falk Field. TCU went to the College World Series in 2010, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017 under Schlossnagle and won Big 12 regular season titles in 2015, 2017, and 2021.

In his career, Schlossnagle is 946-455 with nine NCAA regional titles, seven super regional titles, 10 conference tournament titles, and 10 conference regular season titles. Schlossnagle also won the 2022 SEC West division title. He was named Baseball America’s national coach of the year in 2016, and Big 12 coach of the year in 2015.

Before TCU, Schlossnagle was the head coach at UNLV. In Las Vegas, he led the Rebels to the Mountain West regular season and tournament titles in dominating fashion.

Prior to his head coaching career, Schlossnagle was an assistant at Tulane, Clemson, and Elon.
