Stan Drayton takes Temple head coach job
Texas Longhorns running backs coach and offensive run game coordinator Stan Drayton was announced as the head coach of the Temple Owls on Wednesday night.
The Owl head coaching job is the first of his career. He has spent time in the Philadelphia area prior, in 1995 as the Penn Quakers running back coach and from 1996-1999 in the same role with the Villanova Wildcats.

Drayton served as the Texas Longhorns running backs coach from 2017-2021. He held the title of associate head coach from 2017-2020 under previous head coach Tom Herman, and became the offensive run game coordinator when Steve Sarkisian elected to keep him on staff upon his arrival at Texas.
Drayton has almost three decades of coaching experience with stops both at the high Power 5 level and in the NFL. His two years in the pro ranks were spent with the Chicago Bears from 2015 to 2016, helping Matt Forte and Jordan Howard to successful seasons.
He is best known for his time at Ohio State, where he was from 2011 to 2014. He was previously with Urban Meyer at Florida for the 2010 season.

Major College Football Playoff implications
Temple recently hired former Texas executive senior associate athletic director for administration and operations Arthur Johnson to be its vice president and director of athletics. Johnson worked for the University of Texas athletic department for 15 years total, with a stop at the University of Georgia in between his two stints in Austin.
While at Texas, Drayton has recruited and developed running backs like Bijan Robinson, Roschon Johnson, Jonathon Brooks, and Keilan Robinson.
Temple recently fired Rod Carey after he went 12-20 during his three years in Philadelphia. The Owls are members of the American Athletic Conference.
