The former Florida quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner is in Austin this weekend as part of the SEC Network’s SEC Nation pregame show. Tebow and company welcomed Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian to their set, and Tebow used the opportunity to tell the Longhorns head coach how much he admired one of the leaders of the Longhorn defense.

“I love how you have built a team that is fast, that is physical, that is athletic, and it really starts on defense, and it starts with someone I like to call the freak of the week,” Tebow said.

That freak? Anthony Hill Jr.

“This week’s freak of the week, I am so excited about, because he dominates at everything,” Tebow said. “He leads the team in total tackles. He leads the team in assisted tackles. Second in sacks. First and foremost, his name is Anthony Hill. He’s front squatting 405 like it’s light weight.

“Squats 605. Benches 405. Does whatever he wants in the weight room. I love your strength coach, (Torre) Becton, but this dude flies around all over the field and I love the way he plays.”

Hill has notched 68 tackles this season, one more than his total from his freshman year in 2023. He also has 11 tackles, 5.5 sacks, one interception, one pass defended, and three forced fumbles.

Sarkisian doted on No. 0 along with Tebow.

“Who he is in the weight room is who he is on the football field,” Sarkisian said. “His versatility for us, his ability to play off the ball ‘backer, blitz off the edge, blitz internally, play in pass coverage, and then he’s violent on contact. Which you’ve got to love. He’s a violent player.”

Sarkisian was quick to acknowledge that Hill is just as much of an all-star off the field as he is on the field. And Sark raved about his ability on the field.

“The best part about Anthony Hill? Better human being than he is football player,” Sarkisian said. “It’s so cool to see this kid in year two for us. I don’t know if the nation knows how good he really is.”

Other notes from Sarkisian on SEC Network

On Kentucky: “One thing about the SEC that’s been getting talked about all week, from top to bottom, how good these teams are. You look at this Kentucky team and what (Mark) Stoops has done, that’s an NFL defense. They’ve got first round picks all over that defense. You don’t go into Oxford, Mississippi and beat Ole Miss, you don’t lose to Georgia 13-12, be in a one-score game with Tennessee in the fourth quarter — all top 10 teams by the way — we’ve got our work cut out for us. It should be a great game.”

On the UK defense: “They’re not going to get out of their gap. They’re not going to blow a coverage. We have to execute at a really high level. That’s going to be the key today. We can’t have our own mistakes. We’ve got to win on first down because third and long against these guys is tough.”

On Quinn Ewers: “Coming off of that oblique strain, he was a little cautious and we were a little cautious. He’s healthy now, so we’ve got to get him using his legs a little bit more.”

On his Friday night watching Gladiator II: “Fantastic movie. Great plot. Great twist. If you don’t like blood and guts and killing, it’s not your movie. But it’s a great movie.”
