Sarkisian has the Longhorns ranked No. 1 in the nation after the program’s first 6-0 start since the 2009 season. Under his guidance this year, Texas has wins at Michigan and against Oklahoma plus victories over Colorado State, UTSA, ULM, and Mississippi State. The Longhorns, in their first year as members of the Southeastern Conference, boast the No. 7 total offense, the No. 7 scoring offense, the No. 1 total defense, and the No. 1 scoring defense among many other top-10 statistical rankings.

Sarkisian won the Broyles Award in 2020 as Alabama’s offensive coordinator. The Broyles Award is given annually to the nation’s top assistant coach. Sarkisian earned the honor thanks to guiding the Alabama offense to record-breaking heights as part of the Crimson Tide’s most recent national championship. His play-calling helped DeVonta Smith win the Heisman and join Mac Jones, Jaylen Waddle, Alex Leatherwood, and Najee Harris in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft.

Mack Brown won the award in 2005 after leading Texas to its fourth national championship. In 2000, three-time national champion coach Darrell Royal received the lifetime achievement award from the AHA and the Bryant family. Brown received the same distinction in 2016. This year’s lifetime achievement award winner will go to former Baylor coach Grant Teaff.

Florida State’s Mike Norvell won the award in 2023.

The Coach of the Year award winner will be announced live from Houston’s Post Oak Hotel on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, during an awards ceremony presented by Marathon Oil. The National Sports Media Association, the Bryant Awards’ Executive Leadership Team and the Bryant Family voted on the watch list, finalists and Coach of the Year recipient.
