Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian alluded to the coming SEC injury reports when describing Quinn Ewers‘ status for this weekend’s game against Louisiana-Monroe.

“There was a non-contact deal, which we touched on,” Sarkisian said Monday. “The oblique strain there. When you guys get your injury report next Wednesday when that officially begins, he would be listed as questionable.

“We’re going to monitor him day to day and see what this looks like. But he would be questionable for Saturday on the report for next week.”

To be clear, Sarkisian does not have to put out an injury report this week for the non-conference matchup versus Louisiana-Monroe. His words should be taken to mean that if he had to put an injury report out, Ewers would be listed as questionable. He confirmed that later in the press conference.

“He’s questionable,’ Sarkisian said.

Ewers earned praise from Sarkisian for his efforts throughout his career during the games he misses.

“He’s always staying dialed in,” Sarkisian said. “He’s a really observant guy. Even when he’s healthy and the twos go in, he’s always watching the twos. He’s always taking the mental reps. I think that’s the natural trait he has. When he’s out, he’s definitely getting all the mental reps. He prepares as if he’s playing each week, but he’s also diligent with his recovery. I think that’s why when he comes back, he comes back and performs at a high level.”

So far this season, Ewers is 58-for-79 for 691 yards and eight touchdowns over two interceptions. In his career at Texas, he’s 502-for-760 for 6347 yards and 45 touchdowns over 14 interceptions.
