Steve Sarkisian says Cam Williams will play versus Ohio State

ARLINGTON — Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said Thursday during his pre-Cotton Bowl press conference alongside Ohio State head coach Ryan Day that junior right tackle Cam Williams will play on Friday night against the Buckeyes.

Williams left the Longhorns’ College Football Playoff first-round matchup versus Clemson after he was rolled up on during Texas’ win. He was replaced by Trevor Goosby, who performed admirably just over a week after he stood in for Kelvin Banks at left tackle.

ESPN reported earlier Thursday that Williams will start and that he’s been dealing with a right knee sprain.

Williams was a game-time decision for the CFP quarterfinals game versus Arizona State, and went through warmups and dressed for the game. However, he was not able to go and Goosby started in his place.

A 6-foot-5, 335-pounder from Duncanville (Texas), Williams has 16 career starts. During the course of the 2024 season, Williams has a Pro Football Focus offensive grade of 69.2, a pass-blocking grade of 76.5, and a run blocking grade of 70.9. He has been flagged for 15 penalties.

The Longhorns and Buckeyes will battle on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. in the Cotton Bowl Classic at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
