“It will be great to have No. 3 back at quarterback on Saturday night,” Sarkisian said.
Ewers, a third-year sophomore from Southlake (Texas) Carroll, has completed 151-of-213 passes for 1915 yards and 13 touchdowns over three interceptions this season. He’s also added five touchdowns on the ground. He started every game for the Longhorns but left during Texas’ win over Houston due to what’s been reported as a shoulder injury.
Ewers was replaced in the contest with the Cougars by Maalik Murphy, a redshirt freshman from Inglewood (Calif.) Serra. Murphy finished the game versus Houston, then started the wins over BYU and Kansas State. For the year, Murphy is 39-for-70 for 465 yards and three touchdowns but also three interceptions.
