Texas needed Mitchell’s presence partially for 2024 but especially for 2025. In recent days, Texas lost  Aaron BryantJaray Bledsoe, and Tia Savea to the portal, but Mitchell staying around maintains at least some level of depth needed for the next season.

Mitchell played in four games in 2023, maintaining his redshirt. He tallied three tackles.

This season, Mitchell has played in five games, appearing in contests versus Colorado State, UTSA, Florida, Kentucky, and in the SEC Championship game versus Georgia. He has four tackles with 0.5 for loss.

A member of Texas’ 2023 class out of Oradell (N.J.) Bergen Catholic, Mitchell was ranked as the No. 226 overall prospect, the No. 26 defensive lineman, and the No. 3 player in New Jersey in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3 ranked Mitchell as the No. 233 overall prospect, the No. 26 defensive lineman, and the No. 4 player in New Jersey.
