A boom from bEASTtexas.
Texas got some much needed recruiting momentum tonight when Bullard TE Major Tennison committed to UT.
“It feels unbelievable,” said Tennison, Texas’ newest pledge. “It’s really hard not to honestly (pick Texas). I grew up loving them so it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to go there. I’m blessed.”
The 6-foot-5, 240-pound tight end is one of the top pass-catchers in Texas for 2017. He holds offers from Texas Tech, SMU, and Oklahoma State.
It’s another recruiting win for TE coach Jeff Traylor, who Tennison has built a great bond with both being from East Texas.
“It’s really great,” said Tennison, of his relationship with Traylor. “I’m really excited to get to play for him.”

Major Tennison, TE – Bullard (2017)
How he fits at Texas: Tennison has strong hands and fluid movement, if unspectacular speed, but those former traits really matter more for attacking the seam as a TE. Tennison is a great prospect as a flex or in-line tight end that is relied on to run routes in the middle of the field with his ultimate upside depending on where his frame takes him and how he does at blocking defensive ends. Tennison’s frame and skill set does not project well to H-back which means that he doesn’t project as cleanly to an offense built around a two-back run game unless Texas plays him with another tight end or fullback and de-emphasizes the spread. – Ian Boyd
Coach says: First off, I’m a fan of his name. Good, strong name. I’m not sure he is 240 pounds right now, but if he is, he carries it extremely well. Uses his size to his advantage against smaller defenders – as he moves on to the next level that will become a great asset. He is essentially an oversized receiver at this stage in his development, but I expect he will be asked to be more of a traditional tight end at the next level. With his receiving skills he will be able to stretch the seams, and be a nice safety valve for when you need to move the chains with great hands for a big man.
How this affects Texas: Tennison is one of the top TE targets in 2017. The state is filled with them. Tennison told me UT wants to see some junior film before offering, but new UT TE coach Jeff Traylor has seen him up close and personal during the epic Bullard-Gilmer battles. He’s the new age tight end – started as basketball player and learned it’s easier to get a D1 football scholarship than a D1 basketball scholarship. He’s got incredible hands and feet for the position but is he David Thomas or Garrett Gray? Texas fans must hope for something in the middle. His offer list will increase over the next nine months, which is good that Texas has already built a nice relationship with him. – Justin Wells
