Coming off the heels of a Sugar Bowl win and an appearance in the Big 12 championship game, Tom Herman had a lot of momentum on the recruiting trail for his 2019 class, though not necessarily in the state of Texas. Jimbo Fisher utilized a similar second-year bump in 2019 that Herman did in 2018 to make life difficult in-state for Herman. Texas A&M signed eight of the top 20 recruits in 2019 according to the On3 Consensus. Nine others in that group went out of state. Texas only signed Tyler Johnson, Tyler Owens, and Jordan Whittington from within the top 20, yet the class still finished third nationally.
