The game against the Bulldogs is scheduled for September 2, 2028.

Texas and Louisiana Tech have played in one previous contest. Texas won 45-14 in Austin to open the season on August 31, 2019. Sam Ehlinger was 28-for-38 for 276 yards and four touchdowns. He added 34 yards on the ground.

Devin Duvernay and Collin Johnson caught touchdown passes and Brennan Eagles had scores on two of his three catches. Keaontay Ingram scored on a one-yard touchdown run, and then-backup quarterback Casey Thompson added a 2-yard touchdown run late to put the game at its final margin.

Prior to the game, Louisiana Tech grad and Hall of Fame quarterback Terry Bradshaw outed himself as a doubter of Ehlinger and the Longhorns.

“I never understood why players would wanna go and stack up,” Bradshaw said at the time. “Like, Texas. We open up with Texas this year, and one year, they signed three (five-star) quarterbacks. Two are now gone, and one that’s playing, you know, he ain’t that good.

“And I’m like, ‘Really? (Five-star)?’ You watch ’em throw the football and you go, man, alive, (it’s) like they go there and they can’t throw the football. I’ll take our boys any day.”

Louisiana Tech was able to rack up 413 total yards on Texas, most of those through the air. J’mar Smith passed for 331 yards on 34-of-51 passing while Westin Elliott was 1-of-3 for nine yards. Smith had two touchdowns and an interception. Elliott added a pick of his own.
