Texas aims to break a woeful recent stretch against Texas State

The Texas Longhorns ride a six-game winning streak into Tuesday’s matchup, but all eyes are on their three-game home losing skid against Texas State. With No. 3 Georgia looming, this Tuesday game carries extra weight as Texas aims to solidify its outfield after Max Belyeu’s injury and snap the embarrassing streak.

Make no mistake, this game is incredibly important for Texas State regardless of the season they are having. In their eyes, this is one of the biggest games of the season. They consider this a rivalry game and looking at it from their perspective that is probably true, even if the sentiments are not echoed back. Dating back to 2022, Texas State holds a lead over the Longhorns with four wins and three losses.

There has been a variety in the quality of not just Longhorn teams, but also Bobcat teams. It would be one thing if Texas had only lost to really good Texas State teams. However the last three years have taught us anything can happen when the Bobcats make their way up from San Marcos.
The Longhorns were not the top-five squad they are currently for most of the above stretch. But to the point above, Texas State entered the game last year at 17-17 against a Texas team that eventually snuck into a regional. Even though Texas State was outmatched talent-wise, the Bobcats won the game 7-3 thanks to a six-run fourth.
There have been some crazy results even when Texas fielded an Omaha team. In 2022, Texas went down 6-3 early in the game before responding with six runs of their own. The Longhorns held the line and won that game in San Marcos 9-8 only to lose 6-4 at the Disch the the next day. Texas entered that matchup as the No. 1 ranked team in the country.

So if you decided to look at the records to find who has an edge, throw those whatever you find out the window. There’s no such thing as meaningless midweek games, especially when the games are anything but meaningless to one of the teams involved.
And, Texas has a lot on their plate to figure out with not a lot of time to get it done.
Belyeu, a Golden Spikes watchlist member, was reported to likely miss the remainder of the regular season if not the rest of the 2025 campaign despite the program describing him as week to week. Texas will need to find a suitable outfield lineup and do so quickly.

The Longhorns face a critical test Tuesday—end the Texas State skid and fill Belyeu’s shoes before Georgia arrives. No matter who arises, the Bobcats will be aiming to produce another stunner. History warns: expect chaos.
