Texas pulled off a 3-0 sweep versus Mississippi State to begin SEC play. Now the Longhorns face the No. 2 LSU Tigers in Austin this weekend. Inside Texas’ Evan Vieth and NashTalksTexas dive into the upcoming series at the Disch.

Vieth and Nash provide their takeaways from Texas’ ability to sweep Mississippi State at the largest stadium in the SEC in Starkville. Texas had to battle on multiple occasions in all three games, making sure to take leads in clutch situations and keep those same leads to earn the 3-0 weekend. Texas moved up to No. 8 as a result in the D1Baseball rankings. The ability to win with versatility was also notable.

There was some mixing and matching in the outfield, a place where there seems to be four guys competing for the three spots. Tommy Farmer and Easton Winfield have ostensibly traded opportunities at left while Will Gasparino and Max Belyeu have held things down in left. What the outfielders have done is praised.

Pitching is the next topic, and the duo looks at what Jared Spencer was able to do and how the Longhorns tried to utilized Dylan Volantis. Volantis closed multiple games on the weekend but the hosts wonder if he can start once again.

The two then look at the week ahead, with Texas taking on UTSA and then No. 2 LSU. The importance of the series against the Tigers is discussed, and the opportunity for the Longhorns to establish themselves as a national seed contender is on the line this weekend when LSU arrives.
