Longhorns head coach Chris Beard has been deliberate in filing the spot left open when Maligi accepted the associate head coach role at Kansas State March 23, 2022.
The hiring of Chappell from UNLV brings a strong young recruiting presence to the Texas program with deep roots in the Lone Star State. Chappell played high school basketball at Beaumont Ozen with former NBA center Kendrick Perkins. His connections in the Golden Triangle area date back to former Texas guard J’Covan Brown.
