Jay Bilas recently named Texas head coach Sean Miller one of the best coaching hires of the offseason. Keenan supports that view, citing Miller’s adaptability, offensive evolution, and increasing recruiting success, especially with the 2026 class. He’s described as a “destination coach” likely to stay long-term if things go well.

Miller is actively engaging with the Texas community—something Rodney Terry struggled with and Chris Beard excelled at. His presence on social media and support for other UT teams shows his commitment to building culture and fan buy-in. This could help fill the Moody Center, which saw poor attendance despite having high-level talent last season.

Texas added a new international big man, Lewis Obiorah from England’s Barking Abbey program. At 7’1” with a 7’5” wingspan, Obiorah is viewed as a long-term developmental piece. Though dominant in a lower-tier British league, he’ll likely redshirt as he adjusts to the college game. He’s compared physically to Chet Holmgren but is raw in coordination and offensive polish.

The biggest current roster need is more experienced ball-handlers. Texas has depth in the frontcourt with players like Lassina Traore, Matas Vokietaitis, Nic Codie, and John Clark, but lacks proven guard play. Keenan notes that Texas needs at least one more guard who can contribute immediately, especially for SEC-level physical play.

Tre Johnson is reportedly high on the Utah Jazz’s radar. Keenan discusses his potential to thrive next to Isaiah Collier due to Johnson’s size, scoring instincts, and 6’10” wingspan. Compared to his time playing off Alabama’s Labaron Philon, Keenan believes Johnson would be more efficient with a strong point guard facilitating.
