Texas claims its 10th win of the year, solidifying its first double-digit win season since 2018
For the first time since 2018 and for the first time in the regular season since 2009, the Texas Longhorns have won 10 games. The Longhorns won 26-16 at Iowa State on Saturday thanks to the efforts of CJ Baxter, T’Vondre Sweat, Quinn Ewers, and Byron Murphy.

The Longhorns won on the back of an inspired defensive effort. The Cyclones amassed nine total rushing yards on 21 carries and were held under 20 points. Texas had six tackles for loss and three sacks, including 1.5 from Murphy and half a sack attributed to both Alfred Collins and Ethan Burke.
“I was really proud of our team,” Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian said. “This was not a win in one phase or one aspect. This was a lot of different players making plays tonight, making plays at some pretty critical moments.”
This is the 25th 10-win season in school history and the Longhorns’ 10th as a member of the Big 12. Texas recorded seasons with at least 10 wins in 1945, 1947, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1969, 1970, 1972, 1975, 1977, 1981, 1983, 1990, 1995, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2018.
This is also Sarkisian’s first 10-win season as a head coach. Sarkisian’s previous high in a season was nine with USC in 2014.

Texas’ last 10-win season was in 2018, when Tom Herman led the Longhorns to the Big 12 Championship game and defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 28-21 in the Sugar Bowl to earn the 10th win of the season.
The last time Texas won 10 games all within the regular season was in 2009. Thanks to the play of Colt McCoy, Jordan Shipley, Earl Thomas, Keenan Robinson, and others, the Longhorns went 12-0 in the regular season and won the Big 12 championship over Nebraska before falling to Alabama in the BCS Championship.
The Longhorns close the season on Friday in Austin versus the Texas Tech Red Raiders. It will be televised by ABC and kickoff will be at 6:30 p.m.
