Barron’s pick-six during the third quarter was the critical play for the Longhorns defense on Saturday

“It was crazy when I caught it,” said Barron. “I looked back, and it was a tight end, and I’m Iike, ‘It’s over, it’s a touchdown.’ I didn’t even know what celebration to do, that’s how happy I was. It was all a blessing and honestly, I just want to keep stacking up games like this, being a key piece to the defense and contributing anyway I can. My mom was so excited. She said she stayed up all night looking at the replay.”

Barron remarked about how UTSA brought a strong gameplan and an electric signal-caller in 6th-year quarterback Frank Harris.

“It was a good test, and Frank (Harris) did a good job getting out the pocket and even trying to get it to the big men,” said Barron. “They played well, and we just had to face adversity and fight back.”

In addition to his interception, Barron added six tackles versus the Roadrunners.

Now, Barron is ready to bring his playmaking ability to Lubbock on Saturday as the No. 22 Texas Longhorns take on Big 12 foe Texas Tech. Barron recalled his first trip out west.

“The atmosphere was good, even though it was during Covid,” Barron said. “Even with our basketball team, they don’t like us. So it’s good going into an environment like that and just having fun.”

Tech’s quarterback, Donovan Smith, presents an interesting matchup for the Horns this weekend.

“Donovan (Smith) has a good arm, strong arm and likes to get it to his big receivers,” Barron explained.

The Longhorns’ Big 12 opener with the Red Raiders kicks off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
