Thompson, who made 31 starts and appeared in 49 games, has only the year of eligibility relief provided by the NCAA in light of the COVID-19 pandemic remaining.

A member of Texas’ class of 2020, Thompson played in all 10 games during his freshman season including two starts at safety. He was mostly a special teams contributor during that season, racking up 14 tackles and an interception.

In 2021 he played in all 12 games with six starts, posting 41 tackles, 3.0 tackles for loss, and one forced fumble.

His junior season, one in which he played in 13 games with 12 starts, saw him named an honorable mention All-Big 12 by the league’s coaches. He set a career high in tackles with 83 and had 0.5 TFL along with one interception.

He played in all 14 games in 2023 with 11 starts. He posted a career best three interceptions, including a pick-six versus Wyoming and a game-changing interception against Alabama. He finished with 38 tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss.

Thompson was ranked as the No. 199 overall prospect, the No. 14 safety, and the No. 30 player in Texas in the On3 Industry Ranking.
