Texas Edge Barryn Sorrell selected by the Green Bay Packers in round four of the NFL draft

Moments ago, Texas senior Edge Barryn Sorrell was selected by the Green Bay Packers in the fourth round of the NFL draft.

The draft pick is the culmination and reward for a productive career in Austin in which he started 40 games. Upon arrival, the New Orleans native immediately became known for his work ethic and maturity. That helped him play in six games as a true freshman before starting 10 as a sophomore.

Throughout his career, Sorrell earned praise for his reliability and hard hat nature while playing the very demanding Jack outside linebacker position, that’s really more strong side defensive end.

One wonders if a switch to the weak side could unlock some more pass rushing production in Green Bay. Sorrell turned heads at the Senior Bowl and then had a good showing at the NFL combine, posting a 4.68 40 and 34″ vertical jump at 256 pounds. He may be a better athlete than given credit for.

Sorrell and fellow Longhorn Gunnar Helm are the first two day three selections for the Longhorns. Helm was drafted by the Titans.
