The Longhorns were ranked No. 4 behind No. 1 Ohio State, No. 2 Notre Dame, and No. 3 Oregon. The Ducks were knocked out by Ohio State in the quarterfinal round, but boast the best final record in college football with a 13-1 record. Oregon was ahead of Texas by a decent margin, 1255 points to Texas’ 1211.

Teams from Texas’ 2024 campaign to finish ranked included No. 1 Ohio State, No. 6 Georgia, No. 7 Arizona State, and No. 14 Clemson. Michigan, Florida, and Texas A&M were in the receiving votes category.

The Longhorns were the highest-ranked team from the SEC in the final poll. No. 6 Georgia, No. 9 Tennessee, No. 11 Ole Miss, No. 17 Alabama, No. 19 South Carolina, and No. 22 Missouri joined Texas in the final top 25. LSU also received votes.

After Texas finished No. 3 in the final AP poll from the 2023 season, Steve Sarkisian now has back-to-back top five finishes and becomes just the fifth Texas football coach in the poll era to record multiple seasons ending in a top-five ranking.

It is the 51st ranked finish in program history, the 29th top-10 finish, and the 22nd top-five finish.
