As the Longhorns’ final official visit weekend of June rolls on, Texas is 70 days away from taking the field on August 31 against the Colorado State Rams. Inside Texas looks at the players wearing Nos. 74-70 to continue our series as the countdown clock gets closer to zero.

No. 74 – Trevor Goosby, RS FR

Everybody who follows the Texas Longhorns knows that Kelvin Banks Jr. has the left tackle position for as long as he remains at UT. What’s becoming more visible is that Goosby is not just Banks’ current understudy, but possibly his heir apparent. Goosby appeared in two games last year, blowout wins over Rice and Kansas, as the left tackle. Throughout Spring, he was the second-string LT behind Banks.

You could argue Banks is irreplicable, and that’s probably the case. But there’s a lot of confidence in Goosby’s ability and the drop-off is not as steep as the college football public may believe.

No. 73 – Brandon Baker, FR

A prospect who just fell outside of the five-star territory as the No. 34 player in the 2024 class, Baker was a significant win over Ohio State, USC, and Oregon on the recruiting trail and the highest-ranked offensive signee in Texas’ class. He enrolled early and gained valuable experience during the 15 spring practices.

In years past, Baker may have been asked to play early. With the depth and talent Texas has on the offensive line these days, he won’t be thrust into playing time before he’s ready. Baker took tackle reps during the spring, and there are a number of talented players at that position. He could earn a place in the top four, but his likely contributions during his freshman season are on special teams barring a major development during the preseason.

No. 72 – Neto Umeozulu, SO

The previous two players are working to crack the depth chart. Umeozulu is working to crack the starting lineup. Umeozulu, part of the Longhorns’ 2022 signing class, appeared in three games in 2022 and five games in 2023. He showed some promise in those contests, and parlayed that into momentum heading into the spring of 2024.

During the Longhorns’ 15 spring practices, Umeozulu battled Hayden Conner at left guard and began to show the consistency Kyle Flood is looking for. Long story short, Umeozulu and Conner are likely to be in one of the Longhorns’ more competitive position battles in the preseason.
