Texas high school football is well represented in Super Bowl LIX
From field houses and weight rooms from across the Lone Star State, Texas high school football players will be in abundance at Super Bowl LIX at Ceasars Superdome in New Orleans, La. on Sunday. Even a few Texas Longhorns from the Texas Friday night lights will be in action, alongside an East Texas product who could potentially be the greatest quarterback in NFL history.

Kansas City Chiefs
Nick Bolton, LB, Frisco Lone Star – 2018
Bolton was a thumper in high school at Lone Star, but Texas never really pursued.
Patrick Mahomes, QB, Whitehouse – 2014
Texas was never really interested in the Whitehouse product, no matter how much you begged and pleaded with Mack Brown. He was probably going to be a professional baseball player until midway through his junior season in football. That’s when the light switch at quarterback turned on and it was like watching the future every Friday night.
McKade Mettauer, OL, The Woodlands – 2019
Another prospect that Texas never really recruited, but he certainly had the upside.
Charles Omenihu, DE, Rowlett – 2015
Texas-Ex. Sugar Bowl Defensive MVP. Three-star that worked his way into earning a fourth star, a spot in the starting lineup in Austin, and a incredible senior season on the Forty Acres. Now a multi-year veteran.
Samaje Perine, RB, Pflugerville Hendrickson – 2014
Texas liked the big-bodied back but Norman, Okla. seemed to be more his style.
Rashee Rice, WR, North Richland Hills Richland
Pure, unadulterated speed from an under the radar recruit that burst on the scene as a rookie in Kansas City last season.
Jared Wiley, TE, Temple – 2019
Texas-Ex that transferred to TCU. Wiley always had the upside and athleticism to play at the next level as evidenced by him playing quarterback at Temple High School.
Philadelphia Eagles
Lewis Cine, S, Cedar Hill Trinity Christian – 2019
Texas loved the Connecticut transfer that blossomed at Georgia and has a role in the Eagles strong secondary.
Le’Raven Clark, OL, Rockdale – 2011
Texas Tech was his jive and probably his best opportunity. He excelled in Lubbock and continues to do so in Philadelphia.

Jalen Hurts, QB, Channelview – 2016
Texas was more into Shane Buechele, but Hurts had the athleticism, incredible work ethic, desire to be a great quarterback at the next level. Alabama and Oklahoma helped his development.
Lane Johnson, OL, Groveton – 2008
The former quarterback/tight end/defensive end is now one of the best offensive tackles in the NFL. Go figure. This unusually athletic giant is a Kilgore College alum.
Braden Mann, P, Cy-Fair – 2016
Won the 2018 Ray Guy Award and was a unanimous All-American
Tristin McCollum, S, Galveston Ball – 2017
Was once a Utah commit but stayed closer to home at Sam Houston State. Helped the Bearkats to an FCS national championship in 2021.
Moro Ojomo, DT, Katy – 2018
Texas snagged this late senior riser who would go on to a great career in Austin. Ojomo is part of a stacked defensive line depth chart in Philly.
Ainias Smith, WR, Sugar Land Fort Bend Dulles – 2019
The speedster was a very late addition for Texas A&M but he ended up being one of the most impactful players in Jimbo Fisher‘s tenure. First-team All-SEC in 2023.

Milton Williams, DT, Crowley – 2017
