Texas Hoops: No. 7 Texas travels to No. 12 Iowa State

The No. 7 ranked Texas Longhorns face a huge week on the road in Big 12 play.

The Longhorns (15-2, 4-1) are in Ames, Iowa tonight to take on No. 12 Iowa State (13-3, 4-1) in the first of two conference meetings between the two programs. It will be one of those weird portal homecomings for Texas sophomore guard Tyrese Hunter.

Texas is coming off a double-digit comeback victories over No. 14 TCU and Texas Tech last week, keeping Big 12 title hopes alive with a daunting backend of the schedule ahead.

The Cyclones (13-3, 4-1) are coming off a 62-60 loss at No. 2 Kansas Saturday, after pummeling Texas Tech 84-50 earlier in the week in Ames.

Interim head coach Rodney Terry has coached the Longhorns to eight wins in nine games.

How to watch the game

Texas and Iowa State tipoff at 7 p.m. Central on Big 12/ESPN+ with Shawn Kenney (play by play) and Kevin Lehman (analyst) calling the action.

The game will be played at Hilton Coliseum (14,356) – Ames, Iowa

The Longhorns lead the series 27-19. Texas won the last meeting 63-41, February 5, 2022 in Austin.

The Rodney Terry File

Rodney Terry enters Tuesday with a career record of 171-157. He has been a head coach at the Division I level for ten year prior to joining Chris Beard’s staff in Austin.

Terry built the Fresno State program up in his time in California. The Bulldogs won 20 or more games in four of Terry’s last five seasons. That included three times in post season play. Terry has a 0-1 record in the NCAA Tournament.

The T.J. Otzelberger File

T.J. Otzelberger is in his second season as the head coach of Iowa State, and seventh as a head coach at the Division I level. He has a career record of 134-79, including 35-16 at Iowa State. He led the Cyclones to a 22-13 record and Sweet 16 appearance last season.

Otzelberger has an NCAA Tournament record of 2-3 in three appearances. He posted back-to-back appearances at South Dakota State in 2016-17 and 2017-18.

Adams has a 2-1 record in the NCAA Tournament. The Red Raiders advanced to the Sweet 16 last season.
