Texas hosting an All-Big 12 specialist transfer

Texas is hosting Utah punter and 2024 second-team All-Big 12 selection Jack Bouwmeester on Thursday, Inside Texas has learned. Matt Zenitz was first to report the news.

Bouwmeester, a product of Australia who transferred to Utah from Michigan State, just completed his junior season. The 6-foot-3, 197-pounder punted 60 times with a long of 62, and an average of 44.7. Thirteen of his punts traveled 50 or more yards, and 23 of them landed inside the 20. Twenty-four were fair caught.

In 2023 with the Utes, Bouwmeester earned first-team All-Pac-12 honors from the team’s coaches and the AP on his way to earning a spot among semifinalists for the Ray Guy Award. He punted 55 times, averaging 45.5 yards per kick with a long of 64. Twenty-five of his kicks were fair caught, 20 landed inside the 20, and 19 went 50 or more yards.

In 2022, his first season at Utah, Bouwmeester punted 39 times and averaged 39.2 yards. Only one, his season long of 52 yards, went more than 50 yards.

He spent his first two season at Michigan State but did not see action.

Michael Kern was the Longhorns’ primary punter in 2024. Kern, a freshman from Florida, punted 31 times with an average of 40.5 yards per punt. Only two traveled more than 50 yards.
