It’s a sign of just how busy the schedule is right now for college football coaches, but it also shows how much focus the College Football Playoff requires for the assistant staff.
“Back at it now practice wise,” Sarkisian said Wednesday. “Today was practice three this week, which was really good. A really good an intense practice. Fully padded. Guys were working. Obviously we’ve got two more this week before we take a little bit of a break. The beauty of it for us is the health. I think those two weeks really helped us. We got back in our groove here at the end of last weekend with a couple practices on Friday and Saturday. Took a break on Sunday, and now we’re really back to it.
“I’m excited about the process that we’re in. I think the players are really dialed into the schedule that we have, which has been effective. We’re in gameplan mode, which is good, it’s fun. I know the players like that aspect of it all.”
That gameplan mode is part of the 12-13 practices the Longhorns will go through. They will take a break for Christmas before heading to New Orleans on December 27. In the Big Easy, the Longhorns will have two practices open to the media on December 29 and December 30.

Those practices will be important, especially in returning key players like Xavier Worthy, Ryan Watts, Austin Jordan, and others back to full health. What was their status on Wednesday?

“Health wise, the coolest part for me was all those guys were practicing today and all of them looked really good to me,” Sarkisian said. “Are they all quite 100 percent? I don’t know. I know they look fast. They were running around, and that’s a real positive knowing we still have two weeks until the ball game. I think everything’s trending the right way on that front.”
After spending five nights in New Orleans beginning on December 27, the Longhorns will face the No. 2 Washington Huskies in the Allstate Sugar Bowl as part of the College Football Playoff at 7:45 p.m. on January 1.
