The Under Armour All-American game is this afternoon. Texas has a host of elite recruits participating:

– RB Cedric Baxter
– WR Johntay Cook
– DL Sydir Mitchell
– CB Malik Muhammad
– S Derek Williams

Cook has received the most positive reviews of the group during the practice sessions. Muhammad and Mitchell have also received some acclaim. And frankly, the running backs and safeties rarely get talked about in practice settings.

It’ll be interesting to see how all of them fare in live action.

It’s one thing to look “good” in one-on-one matchups. It’s another to play well in the game itself.

I think back to last year. The performance in the UA game of Kelvin Banks gave me the confidence that not only would Banks fight early for a job but that he was extraordinarily physical and prepared to do so. Seeing him in that game, it wasn’t hard to see a future left tackle for the Longhorns.

Phoenix tight end Duce Robinson is also participating. The Horns continue their pursuit but so does Georgia and a host of others.

Meanwhile, the first practice of the All-American Bowl down in San Antonio starts today.

The future Horns participating are:

– WR Ryan Niblett
– WR DeAndre Moore Jr.
– OL Payton Kirkland
– Edge Tausili Akana
– LB Anthony Hill

Another to keep an eye on is Jelani McDonald, who has already signed with the college of his choice, but will not announce his decision until during the game itself.

Perhaps Hill is this year’s Banks. Or let’s at least hope so.

Inside Texas will be talking about these two games, the recruits and more all day. Wish the future Horns luck.
