Texas jumps to No. 2 in the D1Baseball top 25 after weekend sweep of Georgia

After sweeping the Georgia Bulldogs in a top-five series, the Texas Longhorns moved up from No. 5 to No. 2 in Monday’s D1Baseball top 25. Texas (26-4, 11-1 SEC) sits behind No. 1 Arkansas, who took the top spot over the weekend.

The Longhorns are tied with the Razorbacks atop the SEC, with LSU in second place and Tennessee in third. The Texas pitching staff limited a high quality Georgia team to eight runs across all three games. Jared Spencer controlled the Friday night matchup for a 5-1 win. Texas’ offense with Will Gasparino surged on Saturday in a 7-4 victory. The sweep was clinched on Sunday by a Rylan Galvan walk-off home run to put Texas on top 4-3.

SEC teams in the top 25 included No. 1 Arkansas, No. 2 Texas, No. 3 LSU, No. 5 Tennessee, No. 6 Ole Miss, No. 7 Georgia, No. 11 Auburn, No. 12 Alabama, No. 17 Vanderbilt, and No. 19 Oklahoma. Teams from Texas’ schedule in the top 25 included No. 14 Louisville.

In RPI, Texas is currently ranked No. 4, jumping six spots. The top five in RPI in order are Arkansas, Clemson, Georgia, Texas, and Tennessee.

Texas faces Kentucky in Lexington this weekend, but a Tuesday night home matchup versus the Houston Christian Huskies awaits the Longhorns prior to that trip. First pitch on Tuesday is 6:30 p.m. CT.
