Texas lands On3 4-star Aaron Bryant
In his search for the next addition to Texas’ 2022 defensive line class, Bo Davis found just what he was looking for south of Graceland.
2022 On3 four-star defensive lineman Aaron Bryant committed to Texas on Thursday, choosing the Longhorns over Alabama, Georgia, and Texas A&M.
Bryant, from Southaven High School just south of the Tennessee-Mississippi border, is the No. 157 player in the 2022 On300 with a 92 score.
Bryant had offers from LSU, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida State, Memphis, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, and several others.
Evaluation on Aaron Bryant from the Recruiting Notebook:
Strengths: A wide body with a good height/size to fit anywhere along the defensive front. Generally balanced at all times in his stance and firing out. Off the ball quickly with great quickness through the gap. Attacks the double-team and dictates the terms of engagement. Good pop on contact. Shows very strong hands and uses them to his advantage. Clearly understands leverage and sets up to win that battle routinely (like a wrestler). Keeps legs moving on contact and doesn’t give up even when he’s lost leverage. Will track the ball well and stay squared to the line once through the hole. Shows decent short area quickness and closing speed. Generally a menace that has to be accounted for at all times. Has 9 minutes of highlights which is generally a lot for an interior lineman.

Areas for improvement: Change of direction could be a problem. Bryant has numerous highlights against lesser opponents and double-wing offenses. Will get upright at times and let opponents under his pads on occasional opponent film. Will get himself turned by too much spinning. Will need careful thought to strength and conditioning to keep him flexible. Need to keep the weight manageable.
How he fits at Texas: Aaron Bryant is the sort of big boy from SEC country the league is known for having. He’s already 6-foot-4, 306 pounds and shows a little change of direction and a lot of get-off at college-ready size. Bryant excels at getting a good jump off the ball and initiating contact with the offensive linemen looking to block him, setting himself up to win the battles and be positioned to make plays. This is exactly the sort of tackle Pete Kwiatkowski needs for his fronts, a defender with the power and hands to mix in some two-gapping techniques and play through linemen to cover gaps or push the pocket. – Ian Boyd
Bryant is the 18th commit of Texas’ 2022 class joining Ronald Lewis (Warren Easton – LA), Eoghan Kerry (Mater Dei – CA), Derrick Brown (Texas High), Austin Jordan (Denton Ryan), Connor Robertson (Austin Westlake), Cole Hutson (Frisco), Jamarion Miller (Tyler Legacy), Will Stone (Austin Regents), Lance St. Louis (Williams Field – AZ), Zac Swanson (Brophy College Prep – AZ), Kristopher Ross (North Shore), BJ Allen (Aledo), Trevell Johnson (Arlington Martin), Maalik Murphy (Junipero Serra – CA), Jaydon Blue (Klein Cain), and Armani Winfield (Lewisville).
