Another Musketeer has turned into a Longhorn. Xavier transfer big Lassina Traore committed to Sean Miller‘s Texas men’s basketball program after a visit to Austin over the weekend. He joins FAU transfer Matas Vokietaitis as big man commits in the Longhorns’ transfer class.

Traore transferred to Xavier from Long Beach State but suffered a season-ending knee injury in the leadup to the 2024-25 season.

“Lassina was a starter on this year’s team,” Miller said at the time. “He had a great summer and preseason, where he improved his game as much as any player in our program. He emerged to be our team’s best rebounder, low post defender and shot blocker. He was in superior condition and became a tone setter for everything that impacts winning. We will miss Lassina’s ability and presence. No one player can replace him. All of us will have to do more, be better and step up in our respective roles. And, we will eagerly await his return to the basketball court in the 2025-26 season.”

Texas is his fourth school as he started his career at St. Louis before playing two seasons for the Beach. He led the Big West in rebounding in back-to-back seasons and earned all-conference honors both seasons in Long Beach. Both of his seasons at LBSU saw him average a double-double. He is a career 53 percent shooter from the field and a 69 percent shooter at the free throw line. He’s currently ranked as the No. 130 player in the portal according to On3.
