Texas LB Demarvion Overshown named semifinalist for Butkus Award
Texas linebacker DeMarvion Overshown was named a semifinalist for the 2022 Butkus Award, the Butkus Foundation announced on Monday. It’s the second straight year in which Overshown has been named a semifinalist for the award.

Former Longhorns Derrick Johnson won the award in 2004 and was also a finalist in 2003, as was Sergio Kindle in 2009.
He was named to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list, the Maxwell Football Club announced, and the Lombardi Award watch list before the beginning of the year. Overshown is one of seven Longhorns named to the Reese’s Senior Bowl watch list.
The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football. The Lombardi Award is presented annually to the college football offensive or defensive lineman, who in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the character and discipline of NFL Hall of Fame Head Coach Vince Lombardi. Overshown was also named to the Bronco Nagurski Trophy watch list.

Overshown has played in all eight games for the Longhorns this season with seven starts. This season, the senior has 58 tackles (31 solo), six tackles for loss, one quarterback hurry, three pass breakups and a career-high 2.5 sacks. He has registered at least five tackles in every game this season, including a season-high 10 against UTSA.
He has three games in 2022 with eight tackles (ULM, West Virginia, Oklahoma State) and had two tackles for loss against ULM and Oklahoma State. For his career, Overshown has recorded 211 tackles (118 solo), 26.5 tackles for loss, 7.5 sacks, three interceptions, three forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and 15 pass breakups.
The winner of each award will be named on or before Dec. 7 after finalists are named on Nov. 21 by the award committee.
The 2022 Butkus Award winners will be honored at a televised event on Jan. 21, 2023, at
the Agua Caliente Resort Casino Spa in Rancho Mirage, Calif. The event will again feature
namesake Dick Butkus and numerous noted NFL Alumni. Ticket and sponsorship information
