Texas LB Jaylan Ford named Reese’s Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week
Texas senior linebacker Jaylan Ford was named the Reese’s Senior Bowl Defensive Player of the Week, the organization announced on Monday. Ford earned the accolade for his strong production in No. 3 Texas’ 38-6 victory at Baylor on Saturday in Waco.

The Frisco (Texas) Lone Star product garnered eight tackles (four solo), one tackle for loss and one interception in the victory. Ford’s interception was his second of the season and sixth of his career, the fourth-most for a Texas linebacker in program history.
His interception ended a BU scoring march, catching the ball at the goal line and returning it to the Texas 5-yard line. The Texas offense took over from there, marching the length of the field on a 7-play, 95-yard touchdown from for the game’s final score.
Not to mention, six of Ford’s interceptions have led to scoring drives for the Longhorns with five touchdowns and one field goal.

This season, Ford has 25 tackles with 11 solo and 3.0 TFL. He has also recorded two interceptions. Ford was named a third-team All-American last season by the Associated Press. He tallied 119 tackles, 61 of them solo, along with 10.0 TFL, 2.0 sacks, four interceptions, two passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles. For his career, Ford has 211 total tackles, 20.0 tackles for loss, 2.0 sacks, six interceptions, two passes defended, two fumble recoveries, and three forced fumbles.
The No. 3 Longhorns are back home on Saturday, Sept. 30 with a matchup against No. 24 Kansas. Kickoff from Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is set for 2:30 p.m. with the game airing live on ABC.
