With three former Texas football players, Charles Omenihu, Moro Ojomo, and Xavier Worthy, set to appear in Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, the Longhorns will have their best representation in the Big Game since Super Bowl LII in 2018.

In 2024, Omenihu was the sole former Texas player on either the Kansas City Chiefs or the San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers were coached by a former Longhorn letterwinner in Kyle Shanahan, but none of his charges for that game had ever suited up in the burnt orange and white.

This is the first time at least three Longhorns have been on Super Bowl rosters since Super Bowl LII in 2018. Super Bowl LII featured Malcom Brown with the New England Patriots plus Jordan Hicks and Marcus Johnson on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles won that contest, 41-33.

The most Longhorns on the field in a single Super Bowl was five in 1986, 1988 and 2011. In Super Bowl XX, New England had Raymond Clayborn, Kenneth Sims, and Ed Williams while Chicago’s championship team had defensive tackles Bill Heathcock and Steve McMichael.

For Super Bowl XXII, Terry Orr was on champion Washington while Laron Brown, Bobby Micho, Dave Studdard, and Ray Woodard were on Denver’s roster. In 2011 for Super Bowl XLV, Green Bay had Jermichael Finley while Pittsburgh boasted Casey Hampton, Tony Hills, Jonathan Scott, and Limas Sweed.

A former Longhorn player has been on the field for every Super Bowl since 2006 save for Super Bowl LVII in 2023.
