Last season, the Texas Longhorns were ranked No. 3 in the final College Football Playoff rankings and took part in the final iteration of the four-team playoff to determine the national championship. In 2024, the Longhorns will take part in the expanded playoff and battle 11 other teams as Steve Sarkisian‘s program looks to bring home a fifth national championship.

The Texas Longhorns were seeded No. 5 in the College Football Playoff’s 12-team bracket on Sunday, setting up a home playoff game at Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium against the No. 12 seed Clemson.

First-round College Football Playoff games are to take place the weekend of December 20-21. There is one game on Friday, December 20 in the evening and then one game in all three time slots on December 21.

Texas (11-2), was ranked No. 3 but seeded differently because of the format of the College Football Playoff. The four highest ranked conference champions receive the top four seeds, meaning despite a high ranking the Longhorns had a lower seeding.

Texas’ opponent, the Clemson Tigers, finished 10-3 in the 2024 season.

SEC teams to make the 12 team bracket were No. 2 Georgia, No. 3 Texas, and No. 7 Tennessee.

No. 11 Alabama was the first team out.

Sarkisian is scheduled to speak with the media on Sunday via Zoom to preview the matchup and discuss Texas’ schedule in the coming 12-13 days.
