Texas makes history in multiple ways via 34-24 win over Alabama

Texas’ 34-24 win over the Alabama Crimson Tide in Tuscaloosa is the type of win that sends shockwaves throughout the college football landscape. Alabama doesn’t typically lose in Bryant-Denny Stadium, but Saturday was little bit different.

“They were 52-1 in their last 53 games,” Sarkisian told ESPN. “I guess they’re 52-2 now.”
That’s not the only impressive number.
The Longhorns broke Alabama’s 57-game winning streak in non-conference regular season home games. Back in 2007, Louisiana-Monroe topped the Crimson Tide during Nick Saban’s first season. No non-SEC team had won in Bryant-Denny since then. Sarkisian joins the elite company of former Warhawk head coach Charlie Weatherbie.
Texas also snapped the Crimson Tide’s 21-game home winning streak. The last team that went into Tuscaloosa and won was the 2019 LSU Tigers. Another extremely impressive streak the Longhorns snapped was Alabama’s 73 straight home wins when holding a lead entering the fourth quarter.

The stats keep coming. According to ESPN, that was Saban’s first double-digit home loss as a college football head coach since 2003 when his LSU Tigers lost to Florida. It was also the largest home loss in the Saban era, and the first time a Saban assistant walked into Bryant-Denny and walked out with a win. Because of the 34-24 score, it’s the Crimson Tide’s first home loss by double digits since 2004.
For the first time since 2003, Alabama is 1-1.
There’s more. According to On3’s Matt Zenitz, this was Texas’ first top-five win since 2018, the first road win over a top-five team since 2010 (and second since 2005), and the first win over a top-three team since 2008.
No matter how you slice it, Texas’ 34-24 win was historic in a number of senses.
