After a thrilling 37-24 win in Manhattan, Kan. over the Kansas State Wildcats, the Texas Longhorns were deemed worthy of top 25 consideration in both major polls.

The Longhorns ranked No. 18 in the AP Top 25, while the Coaches Poll placed Steve Sarkisian’s team in the same No. 18 spot.

Texas was a part of the initial College Football Playoff top 25 rankings released Tuesday, checking in as the only three-loss team the committee placed in its early rankings. After a win over No. 13 K-State, Texas should see themselves move up from the No. 24 spot when a new list of rankings is released on Tuesday.

Several Big 12 teams dropped in the AP top 25, while others moved closer to No. 1. Thanks to losses by several teams ahead of them, the TCU Horned Frogs ascended from the No. 7 position to No. 4. As a result of their loss to Texas, the Wildcats dropped from No. 13 to No. 23. Oklahoma State’s loss on the road to the Kansas Jayhawks was enough to remove them from the top 25 after previously holding the No. 18 spot.

Similar things happened in the Coaches Poll. Previously No. 7 TCU moved up to No. 4 thanks to losses by Alabama and Clemson. No. 14 Kansas State dropped to No. 22. Oklahoma State fell out of the rankings from their No. 18 position.
