The Texas Longhorns moved up three spots to No. 16 in D1Baseball’s top 25 on Monday following their 2-1 weekend to start the season. Jim Schlossnagle lost his debut to Louisville, but a run-rule win over Ole Miss and a dominant victory over then-No. 17 Oklahoma State earned the Longhorns the Shriners Children’s College Showdown Championship in Arlington, Texas.

Oklahoma State dropped to No. 19 in the rankings. No other opponent the Longhorns faced was ranked on Monday.

The Longhorns dropped Friday night’s season opener in extra innings. Andre Duplantier Jr. gave up a game-winning single to Lucas Moore in the 10th, with Will Mercer taking the decision in a 4-3 loss. Louisville lost to Oklahoma State then defeated Arizona 13-1. Arizona was ranked No. 21 but dropped out of the rankings.

The Longhorns bounced back on Saturday with a seven-inning run rule win over Ole Miss. The game did not count in the Southeastern Conference standings. A seven-run fourth and a three-run seventh powered Texas to the win. The Rebels were 2-1 on the weekend, defeating Arizona then thrashing No. 15 Clemson.

The Sunday affair with the former Big 12 rival Cowboys was more of the same. Texas slugged 14 runs, including an eight in the fifth, to leave Arlington with a 14-8 win and as champions of the event. OSU lost to Clemson on Friday before soundly defeating Louisville on Saturday.

Eight other SEC teams were in the top 25, including No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 3 LSU, No. 4 Tennessee, No. 5 Arkansas, No. 8 Georgia, No. 10 Florida, No. 15 Vanderbilt, and No. 18 Mississippi State.

Teams from Texas’ schedule in the rankings included No. 18 Mississippi State, No. 3 LSU, No. 8 Georgia, No. 1 Texas A&M, No. 5 Arkansas, and No. 10 Florida.

Schlossnagle will make his UFCU Disch-Falk Field debut as the head coach of the Longhorns on Tuesday. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and will be aired on SEC Network+.
