Texas moves up in multiple major college baseball polls
After a clean sweep of Dartmouth over the weekend, Texas Baseball jumped a spot in three of the four prominent college baseball polls.

The Longhorns, now 5-1, were one of the most polarizing teams to rank entering the year. Texas brought in many new additions fresh off of a 2024 season that disappointed many fans in Austin, so much so that Texas brought in a new head coach in Jim Schlossnagle. Some polls, like Perfect Game’s, have marked Texas as a top team in the nation, while others are waiting to see the results of a long offseason for Schloss’ ballclub.
Texas now ranks No. 6 in Perfect Game’s poll, jumping ahead of former No. 3 Virginia and now only trailing Texas A&M, LSU, Georgia, Tennessee and Florida State (4/5 SEC schools).
While D1 Baseball isn’t quite as bullish on the Horns entering the early portion of the year, the website still pushed Texas up one spot from No. 16 to No. 15 after formerly No. 12 NC State dropped all three of their games in the Jax College Baseball Classic.

The NCBWA moved Texas up to No. 15 as well, a one spot improvement.
Lastly, Baseball America didn’t budge on Texas’ rating, holding them firmly at No. 12. Here’s what they had to say:
It was far from convincing, but—thanks to its pitching—Texas swept Dartmouth. While the Longhorns’ offense never scored more than four runs or collected more than 10 hits in a single game, their pitching was outstanding. The starting trio of Jared Spencer, Luke Harrison and Kade Bing allowed one earned run apiece, and the bullpen combined to allow just two runs across 15 total innings. The most impressive performance came in Sunday’s finale, as freshman southpaw Dylan Volantis spun 4.2 shutout innings in which he allowed one hit and collected four strikeouts. Texas this week takes on Incarnate Word before heading out West to participate in the Las Vegas Classic.
Texas is one of just 13 teams that appears inside the top 15 in all three polls, a testament to the early success and natural talent of this Longhorn squad. Of those 13 teams, Texas is one of eight SEC schools, with Oregon State being the sole school not from the SEC or ACC.

The Longhorns will return to the Disch on Tuesday to host Incarnate Word before heading to Las Vegas to play in the Vegas Classic against three unranked teams. The Longhorns won’t play a ranked team until March 14th, when they head to Starkville to face Mississippi State, a team that ranges from a top-15 squad to unranked between the four polls after a 6-1 start to the year that featured a loss to Southern Miss.
