Texas moves up to No. 3 in both major polls

After an easy season-opening win over Colorado State on Saturday, the Texas Longhorns moved up to No. 3 in the nation in the AP and Coaches Polls on Tuesday.

Texas moved up one spot to No. 3 in the AP top-25 Poll after its win over CSU last weekend.

SEC teams in the AP top-25 Poll included Georgia at No. 1, Alabama at No. 4, Ole Miss at No. 6, and Missouri at No. 9. Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, UTSA, and Kentucky received votes.

Michigan, who Texas faces on Saturday in Ann Arbor, is at No. 10 in this week’s poll.

The Longhorns also moved up to No. 3 in the USA TODAY Coaches Poll after starting the season ranked No. 4. In addition, Texas received a first-place vote. No. 2 Ohio State garnered three first place votes while No. 1 Georgia grabbed the other 51.

SEC teams in the Coaches Poll top-25 included No. 1 Georgia, No. 3 Texas, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Ole Miss, No. 10 Missouri, No. 12 Tennessee, No. 13 Oklahoma, and No. 19 LSU. Texas A&M dropped out of the top-25.

No. 9 Michigan was the only team on Texas’ non-conference schedule to be ranked in the Coaches Poll. The Wolverines dropped from No. 8 to No. 9 after their win over Fresno State. Texas A&M, Kentucky, and UTSA all were in the receiving votes category.
