Today is the beginning of the NFL draft. Every year, players hope they have their names called in the first round or just any point throughout the draft. But what does it mean for school the players come from?

This weekend, Steve Sarkisian will have a chance to recruit without saying anything verbally to recruits. He will be able to sit back like Nick Saban has done many years and let the program and Roger Goodell speak on his behalf. Everything that has been said to recruits about development will be on full display as we expect Xavier Worthy, AD Mitchell, and Byron Murphy to possibly be selected in the first round this evening.
Since the Mack Brown days, the NFL and rival schools have spoken about how Texas doesn’t develop or prepare people for the NFL. Other programs would use this to negatively recruit Texas and even though it didn’t work on everyone, they had a point to a degree and could steal a few recruits away.

Times have changed on the 40 Acres. Sarkisian and staff has been able to flip the narrative and turn the program around. Texas is back in national championship contention and winning games with players getting invited to the combine and testing well. Now, after no Longhorn was picked in the draft a few years ago, the program is set to have a few picked in the first round before the weekend is filled with burnt orange.

Texas has shown recruits exactly what they wanted to see as far as on the field results, with the program’s future in the NFL looking very bright. In past years, Texas high school football players would have to leave the state for the development and track record Texas has put together in the past few seasons. That no longer is the case.
